D.A.R.E Essay

By Abigail

Dear Mom and Dad,

I have learned many things in D.A.R.E. D.A.R.E has made me confident. D.A.R.E has made me a better person. Before D.A.R.E, I would not have been able to speak as confidently as I am now. I think that D.A.R.E is important because it helps kids face the sticky situations of their everyday life. D.A.R.E helps kids, parents, and teachers. Kids can be more aware of their surroundings because of D.A.R.E. Thank you D.A.R.E officers for helping us with our struggles and teaching us how to be better people.

After 10 D.A.R.E lessons, I have learned a lot. I have learned how to make good decisions. I have learned about smoking, alcohol, and drugs, and how they affect a growing body. It may seem easy to say “No!” if someone asks you to make bad decisions, but it’s not that easy. Peers may want you to make bad decisions. It is not always easy to say no to a friend. The media might make it seem smoking is “cool”. I have learned to say no to anyone who is asking me to make a bad decision.

In D.A.R.E I have learned about ways to keep me and others safe. In D.A.R.E, the class has talked about how to make good decisions to stay out of trouble. You might have more friends if you are trustworthy. Bad decisions can affect how trustworthy you seem. Sometimes it is hard to know if someone is trustworthy or not. That is why you need to know how to recognize bad situations. We talked about consequences, good and bad. Different things can influence our actions like peers, adults, and the media. Our actions can result in consequences. If you see someone hanging out with the wrong crowd, you can tell them about the consequences that could result from their choice. Thanks to D.A.R.E I can stay away from trouble and keep me and others safe.

Being a kid isn’t easy if you hang out with people who get you in trouble all the time. If you know how to make good decisions and have friends who can back you up, life will be much easier. That is why D.A.R.E is important. Kids can be ready to face the world before they even leave elementary school. They can face challenges with a confident approach. D.A.R.E is important because it teaches kids how to be better people. If a kid sees a peer make a bad decision, all of the D.A.R.E lessons will help them know what to do. A family member might be a drug addict or an alcoholic. D.A.R.E helps a kid know what to do. D.A.R.E is important to me. It is important to society. Thank you D.A.R.E officers for teaching us so much, and for being patient with us just so we could become better people.
